WSU Center for Civic Engagement

Students

Student Employment Opportunities

The Center for Civic Engagement promotes a positive work environment that focuses on possibilities – not only for our student staff – but the possibility of making a difference for our community and those in need.  We work with meaningful purpose, building community and changing lives – while providing an opportunity for WSU students to connect their classroom curriculum with a real world service experience.

Peer Mentor
Peer Mentors work on a wide variety of assignments related to the needs of the Center for Civic Engagement, including representing the CCE as initial point of contact for students and others, fielding student and community requests for service learning involvement, monitoring participant placements and projects, record-keeping, and general office duties. They also work with local community agencies to coordinate service learning opportunities for students.  Mentors respond to student requests for service learning involvement and assist with placement selection.  They also facilitate student placement orientations and reflection on the importance of civic engagement.

Project Leader
Project Leaders work individually and as a team to develop and lead community service learning projects, including recruiting and encouraging student participants, providing transportation to community sites, and facilitating reflection of project experiences.

READS Mentor
READS Mentor positions were created to help Washington State University and the Center for Civic Engagement respond to the America Reads Challenge to improve literacy among school-aged children in our communities. Each of these positions requires tutoring in a rural town (Colton, Colfax, Palouse, or Garfield), approximately 20-25 minutes from Pullman.
