Student Groups
Why become civically engaged?
Help raise awareness of local, national, and global issues; as well as developing and practicing your own skills, increasing understanding of social issues, and growing both professionally and personally.
What can the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) do for you?
The CCE is the connection between student groups on campus and the community.
We work with over 300 community partners addressing a variety of community needs and social justice issues, including youth, animals, the environment, senior citizens, diverse abilities, human services, and education. The CCE offers several opportunities for your group to become involved in various community issues and make an impact at any level that your group is interested.
CCE staff members are available to work with you to develop a meaningful service project that meets the needs of your student group and assist you in maintaining an official record of service hours completed by your members.

What is SLPro?
SLPro is the database in which all WSU students register and search for projects for CCE projects. All students are required to create a profile and complete a short 15 minute orientation and quiz. For group projects this is necessary because it allows WSU to complete a background declaration and risk of assumption waiver as part of the risk management necessary of both the CCE and WSU as well as your community partner.
SLPro also allows students to track their service learning hours. A record of service hours is useful in many situations. Over time, students develop a civic engagement portfolio with their service records. This portfolio can enhance a student's opportunity for scholarship, employment, and graduate school applications.
