Welcome Community Partners!
Thank you for your willingness to work with a Washington State University student in a service learning experience! This type of experiential learning allows students the opportunity to bring what they are learning into the community as they identify, examine, and apply course concepts. Students often comment that their service learning experience is their favorite and most meaningful element in a course. This has much to do with the fact that you as a community partner have the opportunity to contribute to their learning.
By agreeing to work with a WSU student, we request that you:
- Respond to contacts from the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) and/or course instructor (by phone or e-mail) periodically throughout the semester, and inform the CCE and/or course instructor of any concerns or praise regarding the student
- Sign the WSU Affiliation Agreement and register with the CCE on CougSync – our online database (see below)
- Provide the student with adequate supervision
- Verify and sign the student’s documented hours on the Record of Service Hours form provided to you by the student
Instructions for Registering on CougSync
CougSync is a recruitment and management tool for community organizations working with WSU students and the primary means for tracking WSU student civic engagement. Using CougSync, community partners can create an interactive profile (portal) and manage civic engagement opportunities for students from start to finish. CougSync documents the details of the partnership (i.e. student information, course information, and community partner information) and the affiliation agreement between WSU and the community agency. Please complete the online form located at http://tinyurl.com/ccepartner to initiate a partnership with WSU and the Center for Civic Engagement. Occasionally, community partners opt to forgo creating an online portal to post civic engagement opportunities. Either way, WSU requires that community organizations sign an affiliation agreement which delineates organizational responsibilities, including safety of students participating in civic engagement and service opportunities in the community.
For further questions regarding CougSync, service learning, or the Center for Civic Engagement, please contact our Community Partnership team at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (509) 335-7708. Visit our website at cce.wsu.edu/communitypartners for more information about the CCE and additional resources to enhance the civic engagement of WSU students. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have. Thank you for your partnership in helping WSU students to further their education while serving their communities! We look forward to working with you!
