In addition to daily service projects, the Center for Civic Engagement hosts and participates in a variety of great opportunities for WSU students and employees throughout the year. Year round, we host a Public Forums series that includes debates, conversations and reflections. These events are open to everyone, and everyone is welcome to participate in these discussions. We also co-host with Outdoor Recreation the Eco Adventures program. Each semester, the CCE also teams up with Student Involvement to offer the Cougs Connect: Campus and Community Involvement Fair!
In the fall, the CCE holds an open house and service projects for the Week of Welcome; promotes local, state and national elections; and offers Service Giving Projects for the holidays. These are great opportunities to learn about civic engagement opportunities in our community as well as learn more about the electoral process and living well, respectively. The CCE also celebrates two national days of service, 9/11 National Day of Service and Make a Difference Day, as well as National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week in the fall.
In the spring, we hold an annual or bi-annual Campus-Community Forum and co-sponsor the Campus on the Run and Move Out, Pitch In programs. The CCE also co-hosts in state, national and international Alternative Spring Break trips for WSU students who wish to remain engaged over break! In March, the CCE celebrates International Women's Day. We also celebrate two more national days of service, Martin Juther King, Jr Day of Service and Earth Day, as well as Civic Engagement Week in the spring.
